Christina Experiments With M.I.A., Santigold On Next Album
Christina Aguilera is doing anything but getting back to basics on her new music. The singer called in to her station on A.P.E. Radio earlier this week and dished a bit about her forthcoming album, noting that she hit the studio with a wide range of artists to experiment on her sound.
“I know I can’t let too much out the bag too soon,” she said. “I just can’t, ’cause I really want you guys to be surprised and to experience firsthand what I’m talking about or what I’m not talking too much about. Too soon in the game, but wrapping everything up now.”
Aguilera noted that she’s “in the final stages of the record, and I’m just so thrilled.” She stepped out of her comfort zone to make a unique album, working with M.I.A., Santigold and Lady Tron, who she says she “respects and admires.”
“I think I’m most proud of this work than I’ve ever been, just because I worked with so many amazing and incredibly talented people,” she said. “[Sia and I] did a lot of work on this record together, and she’s just a complete gem. She’s truly just such a talented force to be reckoned with. And I so enjoyed her company, and I think we really created some super crazy magic together. I got a chance to sort of write with Santigold, M.I.A., Lady Tron — artists that I really love.”
The album’s sound, and presumably Aguilera’s look to go along with it, will reflect the eclectic vibe that she’s striving for on the album. “The overall versatility of this record is truly something special for me,” she explained. “I experimented with so many different types of textures and sounds with my voice that I’ve never showcased and that I never really knew that I could do.”
She added that “working with so many different people, I really kind of wanted to step into their worlds, them into my world and just get the best of both worlds.”
“I really like to step outside of my own box,” she said. “The result was just crazy magic. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy on the record. Lots of good stuff in store!”

Cher Joins Christina Aguilera In ‘Burlesque’
Call it a hunch, but I think “Burlesque” already has its place in film history set. Not only will it be the acting debut of Christina Aguilera, but the modern musical has signed on the music icon of all icons: the one and only Cher. Yeah. It’s going to be flamboyant.
According to Variety, Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town girl fresh from the cornfields of Iowa. Possessing one heck of a voice (hey, it’s Aguilera) she goes West to pursue her singing and dancing dreams. The aspiring star winds up in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to become a star.
The film will be a career first for the “Moonstruck” Oscar winner, as it will be the first time she uses her singing talents as part of a film role. Cher’s songs have appeared in countless films, but she’s never actually taken a musical part. The film will be directed by Steven Antin (Troy from “Goonies“!!!) off of a script co-written by Antin and Susannah Grant (”The Soloist”). Shooting is set to begin in November.
Cher was last seen onscreen in 2003’s Farrelly Bros’ comedy “Stuck on You,” but is taking a break from her show in Las Vegas to return to the big screen. In addition to “Burlesque,” she has also signed to co-star opposite Johnny Knoxville in “The Drop Out.”
MTV Readers, can Aguilera hold her own against Cher? Is “Burlesque” going to be too over the top to be anything but a cult classic? Or do you see another “Moulin Rogue” on the horizon?

Christina launching online radio show?
Billboard.Com is reporting that Christina is to launch a 24 hour online radio show.
Clear Channel Radio and Front Line Management are creating artist personal experience (a.p.e.) radio, a stand-alone company that will allow musicians to produce their own online radio shows, Billboard can exclusively reveal. The channels will run 24 hours a day and play songs chosen by the artist, interviews and commentary. The program will launch in July with the Eagles, Christina Aguilera and Weezer.
At a time when artists are looking for ways to forge deeper connections with fans, Front Line and Clear Channel will use ad-supported a.p.e. radio to market albums and tours by offering fans exclusive content as well as an inside look into the musical taste of their favorite artists. “We feel that the old model of trying to get radio airplay and some video play is broken,” says Front Line founder/CEO Irving Azoff, who also serves as CEO of Ticketmaster Entertainment and chairman of a.p.e. “We were looking for a seven-days-a-week, 24-hour artist online venture, and the radio channel seems to make real sense.”

Christina Adds Le Tigre To Her List
Lady Gaga, music’s pop princess of the moment, better watch her back: Christina Aguilera has assembled an army of grrl power for her forthcoming fourth studio album, due later this fall.
Aguilera announced earlier this year she’d be hooking up with electro acts Goldfrapp and Ladytron, on top of her go-to producer Linda Perry and ambient Aussie songstress and “new best friend” Sia. Now, she’ll be heading into the studio to record with the beat-happy riot ladies of Le Tigre.
Le Tigre haven’t even recorded an album since 2004’s This Island, yet now they’re all about working with an ex-Mouseketeer. Then again, we kind of saw this coming: Back in ‘04, lead singer Kathleen Hanna told EW: “‘I love Christina Aguilera. She has, like, mini-feminist messages.” Meant to be!
Needless to say, all of this is very interesting. What’s next for Aguilera — announcing she’s working with Hot Chip?! (Not a bad idea, actually. Somebody get on that.) Xtina offered a brief glimpse of what her next album could sound like with last year’s greatest hits collection, Keeps Gettin’ Better, which included thumpers like “Dynamite” and the title track. Namely: more pulsating, ready-for-the-floor synth beats, less belting and jazz-era crooning.
With Le Tigre and co. on board to help pen and produce the tunes, her new album looks like it will move even further toward the avant-garde electro-pop genre. Or, as Gaga puts it, “great art.”
What do you think of the new direction Aguilera has taken? Are you digging the electro-y vibe, or do you wish she’d work those God-given vocal chords more? And which pop star holds your allegiance: Xtina, or the doppelganger she doesn’t know and thinks might be a man, Lady Gaga?

Christina on Kathy Griffin’s D-List?
According to USA Today, Christina will be appearing the new season of Kathy Griffin’s “My Life on the D-List.”
Having spent the better part of four seasons tartly skewering celebrities, Kathy Griffin rubs shoulders with more than a few on the fifth season of her Bravo channel reality show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which returns tonight (10 ET/PT).
Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, Suzanne Somers, Rosie O’Donnell, Christina Aguilera, author Jackie Collins and rapper T.I. — before his incarceration — are among the guests who will appear in this season’s 10 episodes, “mentoring” the shameless Griffin in her mock climb up the alphabet-letter ladder of celebrity notoriety. Griffin also spends “a day in the hood” with the Rev. Al Sharpton and shares bikini time with Paris Hilton.
